Outdoor Education @ St Paul’s

At St Paul’s Lutheran Primary School, learning goes beyond the classroom. Our Outdoor Education program is designed to enrich students’ understanding of the world through real-life experiences that promote curiosity, independence, teamwork, and resilience.

Excursions & Incursions – Learning Comes to Life

From their very first year at St Paul’s, students participate in carefully planned excursions and incursions that connect directly with what they’re learning in the classroom. These experiences bring curriculum to life and give children the chance to explore the natural world, engage with history and culture and discover new perspectives in ways that stay with them long after the day is done.

Past experiences have included exploring wildlife and conservation at Australia Zoo, stepping back in time on St Helena Island, discovering history and science at local and state museums, and welcoming engaging guest presenters and interactive workshops right into our classrooms. Every experience is thoughtfully chosen to spark imagination and provide meaningful, hands-on learning in safe and structured settings.

Camps – Growing Confidence, One Adventure at a Time

From Year 3 onwards, students embark on our progressive camp program – a journey that gradually builds confidence, leadership and independence with each passing year. Every camp is carefully selected to suit the developmental stage of the students, offering age-appropriate challenges in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Through outdoor adventure, team-building activities and shared experiences away from home, students discover new things about themselves and each other. Friendships are deepened, comfort zones are gently stretched and some of the most cherished St Paul’s memories are made around a campfire or on a bush trail.

The highlight of our camp program is the Year 6 Canberra Camp – a landmark experience where our graduating students travel to the nation’s capital to learn firsthand about government, civics and national identity. It’s an unforgettable trip that brings years of learning to life and sends our Year 6 students into high school with a sense of pride, perspective and purpose.
