At St Paul’s, we believe every child deserves a learning experience that sparks curiosity, builds confidence and inspires a genuine love of learning. Our curriculum is aligned with the Australian Curriculum and delivered through rich, engaging experiences across English, Mathematics, Integrated Studies, and Digital and Design Technology. Christian Studies, grounded in the Lutheran Education Australia Christian Studies Framework, is woven throughout everything we do.
Specialist subjects – including Health and Physical Education, The Arts (Visual Art, Media Arts, Dance and Drama), Japanese, Library and Music – are taught by dedicated specialist teachers across all year levels.
Integrated Studies - Learning That Connects
Rather than teaching Science, History and Social Sciences (HASS) and Technology as separate subjects, we bring them together into rich Inquiry Units that help students make meaningful connections across disciplines. Throughout the year, students explore three units of inquiry, each guided by big concepts and essential questions that encourage deep thinking and real understanding.
Families are kept in the loop through our regular Inside Story class newsletters, which share what’s happening in each unit throughout the term.
Read Write Inc Program - Our Commitment to Literacy
At St Paul’s, giving every child a strong start to reading is something we are deeply passionate about – and our Read Write Inc. (RWI) program is something we are incredibly proud of.
Grounded in the Science of Reading, RWI is a structured literacy program supporting our Prep to Year 2 students in phonics, decoding, fluency and comprehension. Every Monday to Thursday, students take part in an hour-long RWI session, with up to 15 groups running simultaneously – each child working at their own “just right” level. This means every student is both supported and challenged, and no child is left behind.
From the very beginning of Prep, families receive Set 1 RWI sound cards to use at home, reinforcing key sounds all the way through to Year 2. We know that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door, and this is one of the ways we keep families connected to their child’s progress.
Our dedicated RWI Reading Leader, Mrs MacFarlane, guides and coaches our teaching staff and learning assistants to ensure every session is delivered with clarity and consistency. Teachers and learning assistants also participate in weekly professional development sessions to keep our practice sharp and our teaching at its best.
Each year we welcome Hayley from the Ruth Miskin Training Centre – the official RWI training provider – for a full day of expert coaching, ensuring we continue delivering the program to the highest standard.
Read Write Inc. is more than a reading program. It’s a school-wide commitment to giving every child at St Paul’s the gift of literacy.
Mathematics - Making Numbers Come Alive
At St Paul’s, we want every child to see themselves as a capable and curious mathematician. Through rich tasks, hands-on investigations, real-world problem solving and explicit teaching, we bring mathematics to life in our classrooms every day.
Daily Number Talks build number sense and reasoning, while students are given time and space to explore mathematical concepts in a variety of ways. We believe maths should feel exciting and relevant – connected to the world your child actually lives in.
Christian Studies - Faith in Action
Christian Studies is an integral and valued part of life at St Paul’s. Through the Lutheran Education Australia Christian Studies Framework, students explore Christian beliefs and develop an understanding of values such as love, kindness and forgiveness. It’s a program that nurtures both the academic and spiritual growth of every child, helping them to understand who they are and how they can positively contribute to the world around them.
Circle Time - Building Community in the Classroom
Circle Time is a regular feature of our classroom life and a key part of our whole-school Relational Development program. Facilitated by the class teacher, Circle Time gives students a safe and structured space to solve problems together, discuss friendships, ask big questions and develop empathy for one another.
Through Circle Time, students develop a genuine sense of pride and ownership over their choices and learn what it means to truly work as a team. It’s one of the ways we build the kind of classroom culture where every child feels respected and heard.
Learning Support - Every Child, Every Need
